2. MUNICIPALIDAD DE ISLA DE MAIPO

Administración, historia y memoria en un solo lugar.

Su funcionamiento parte en el ala sur, donde actualmente se encuentra la Biblioteca Pública, terrenos donados por el Primer Alcalde de la Comuna, don David López Vásquez, para luego extenderse hacia el edificio actual, el que fue inaugurado en 1982 bajo la administración del Alcalde José Manuel Matte, cuyo periodo abarca desde 1981 hasta 1986, y con la participación de don Giorgio De Martino, quien estuvo a cargo de la construcción del ala norte del actual edificio consistorial, en la que actualmente se encuentra la Alcaldía, Relaciones Públicas y Administración Municipal.

Aquí se albergan la mayoría de los servicios administrativos de Isla de Maipo. Su arquitectura se caracteriza por formas rectangulares, patios interiores, corredores y pileta que recuerdan el estilo colonial, muy característico del Casco Histórico. En su patio cívico encontraremos el Memorial del Caso Lonquén, lugar donde se encontraba la antigua tenencia de carabineros. Tras su restauración, se insertaron en uno de sus muros,  15 palomas alzando el vuelo, cuyo diseño pertenece al artista nacional Claudio Di Girólamo. Cada una de estas palomas, representa a los vecinos detenidos en 1973.

2. MUNICIPALITY

Government, history, and remembrance in one place.

The municipality began in the southern wing where the Public Library 196 of Isla de Maipo is currently located. This land was donated by Mr David López Vásquez, our first mayor. Over time, the municipality expanded into the current building, which was inaugurated in 1982 during the administration of mayor José Manuel Matte (1981 – 1986), with the contribution of Mr. Giorgio de Martino, who led the construction of the northern wing. Today, this area houses important offices like the Mayor’s office, Public Relations, and Municipal Administration.

Currently, the building hosts most of Isla de Maipo’s administrative services. Its architecture features rectangular shapes, interior courtyards, and  a fountain that recall the colonial style, characteristic of the historic center.

In its civic courtyard stands the Memorial of the Lonquén case, located where the old police station once stood. After its restoration, one of the walls features 15 doves taking flight, a design by the Chilean artist Claudio Di Girólamo. Each dove represents one of the neighbors who were detained here in 1973.
